Online Role Playing Games was created in the late 90′s. It has evolved, over time, from a Forum using Phpbb to a CMS with Phpnuke to what it is now. In the future I hope to create an even more diverse environment that is competitive with other gaming news outlets.
Role Playing Games, RPG, is what this is all about. The original RPG was started in the 70′s and was called Dungeons and Dragons. For many, it was a step into the fantasy world and along the road of Fantasy Gaming. It also lead to the creation of online environments when the home computer became widely available.
The first environment that only a few had access to in the begining was the Multi User Dungeon, or MUD. These are still popular and easily found today.
Bulletin board systems, BBS, became very popular for awhile. Many games were created for the different BBS software platforms. Some of those games are still popular today and can be played online. Legend of the Red Dragon was one of those games. It was recreated as Legend of the Green Dragon with a bit of difference. The Internet came along and changed the way we play RPG’s now. Most are massive and have very detailed graphics. Thousands of users are online at any given time and interact in ways that most of us who have been playing since the 70′s and 80′s would never have dreamed.
Rolling dice now is nearly dead but you can get your fix for RPG’s online.
